Lab Manager

ALX Oncology Inc. is a publicly-traded, clinical-stage immuno-oncology company focused on helping patients fight cancer by developing therapies that block the CD47 checkpoint pathway. Our lead candidate, ALX148, is a next-generation CD47-blocking therapeutic that combines a high-affinity CD47 binding domain with an inactivated proprietary Fc domain. ALX is headquartered in South San Francisco, California.   

We are seeking an exceptionally talented individual to lead the administrative duties for our Palo Alto site involving laboratory and office activities as well as executive support for our Research and Discovery staff. The ability to multitask and prioritize with minimal supervision will be critical. This will be hands-on position in a fast-paced environment. The successful individual will serve as the key point of contact with external service providers and internal departments spanning Finance, Environmental Health and Safety, Contracts, Operations and other departments. This position will be initially located in Burlingame, CA but will shortly transition to our future new location in Palo Alto, CA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage laboratory supply and gas inventories, equipment and supply orders involving service provider quotes, purchase orders, approvals, vendor forms and payment information.
  • Manage receiving involving moving and unloading of deliveries, organizing supplies, assembling basic equipment, providing oversight of equipment installation, and managing packing slips.
  • Move laboratory waste for storage and pick-up.
  • Support laboratory inspections and record keeping.
  • Support training, implementation, and compliance of health and safety protocols, including the Company’s COVID-19 Safety Plan.
  • Serve as point-of-contact for laboratory and office service providers.
  • Manage laboratory equipment preventative maintenance/repair, and safety hood certifications.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail and FedEx shipments.
  • Implement, maintain, and serve as administrator for specialized software, i.e., electronic lab notebook system.
  • Maintain schedules and calendars.
  • Coordinate teleconferences, onsite/offsite meetings, and catering.
  • Assist with editing/formatting documents and slide presentations.
  • Order and maintain office and kitchen supplies.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements and conference attendance, process expense reports.
  • Serve as point of contact and host for office visitors.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years with managing day-to-day laboratory operations.
  • 4-year college degree preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively and as a team player.
  • Excellent organizational skills.  Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google e-mail and calendar. Familiarity with web-meetings and cloud-based file sharing.
  • Ability to remain flexible and work extended hours as the business requires, handling routine and non-routine assignments.
  • This position will be based out of our South San Francisco office until February 1, 2022. Beginning in February, the position will be located in our new lab facility located in Palo Alto.
