JOB POSTING

Associate Director, Preclinical/Translational Research Lead

ALX Oncology is a clinical-stage immuno-oncology company focused on helping patients fight cancer by developing therapies that block the CD47 checkpoint pathway. Our lead candidate, ALX148, is a next generation CD47 blocking therapeutic that combines a high-affinity CD47 binding domain with an inactivated proprietary Fc domain.

We are expanding our existing group of exceptionally talented and well-motivated colleagues to develop and commercialize our lead candidate, ALX148.

We are looking for an intelligent and driven Associate Director, Preclinical/Translational Research Lead to join our team. The individual will be responsible for all ongoing preclinical research activities around our lead candidate, ALX148. As a drug candidate entering Phase 2 clinical trials, much is known about the characteristics and mode of action of ALX148, however ongoing research is a crucial element throughout life-cycle development including evaluating potential new indications, patient subpopulations, drug combinations, and the mechanisms of response and resistance therein.

The candidate will work within a multi-disciplined development team and will be responsible for planning the research strategy and managing its execution to support our clinical development program. This will entail close collaboration with the ALX clinical team, research scientists, CRO’s, and academic collaborators, often including PI’s and KOL’s from sites participating in ALX148 clinical trials. This position will also give the candidate opportunity to contribute to ALX148 Translational Oncology program.

Responsibilities

These may include but are not limited to:

  • Devise the ongoing biology strategy for ALX148 to support the clinical development plan.
  • Evaluate and prioritize incoming collaborative research proposals including both standalone academic concepts as well as those directly supporting clinical research collaborations and/or investigator sponsored trials.  Proactively seek out additional external collaborative opportunities of value to the ALX148 development plan.
  • Contribute scientific expertise and technical knowhow to assay development and fit-for-purpose implementation in both pre-clinical and clinical settings.
  • Oversee all research activities across many internal and external stakeholders ensuring seamless routes of communication and alignment.
  • Provide support to the Translational Oncology group contributing to translational plans and biomarker strategies across multiple clinical programs.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of biomarker plans evaluating target engagement and pharmacodynamic endpoints, and patient selection and stratification strategies.
  • Integrate preclinical, translational and clinical data to further deepen our understanding of ALX148 specifically, and the CD47 checkpoint pathway in general.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a PhD degree with at least 7 years of experience in Immunology, Cell or Cancer Biology, or a related field within a biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical company.
  • Prior experience with drug development of biologics, preferably through IND submission.
  • Deep knowledge and proven track record in oncology research; a strong background in immuno-oncology is particularly sought after.
  • Broad understanding of cancer models used to interrogate pharmacological activity of drugs modulating the immune system to generate anti-tumor responses.
  • Excellent working knowledge and technical understanding of methods applicable to assay development including flow cytometry, IHC, and multi-omic profiling.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Domestic and/or International travel may be required up to 20% of work time.

ALX Oncology is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants should be legally entitled to work for any employer in the US. Title and salary are commensurate with experience. Our compensation program includes competitive salary, equity participation and attractive bonus incentives.
