Accounting Manager

ALX Oncology is a publicly traded, clinical-stage immuno-oncology company focused on helping patients fight cancer by developing therapies that block the CD47 checkpoint pathway. Our lead candidate, ALX148, is a next generation CD47 blocking therapeutic that combines a high-affinity CD47 binding domain with an inactivated proprietary Fc domain. ALX148 has demonstrated promising clinical responses across a range of hematologic and solid malignancies in combination with a number of leading anti-cancer agents.

We are looking for an exceptionally talented and motivated individual to join our team as Accounting Manager. This individual will provide accounting and finance expertise to support the business strategy for the company’s growing oncology portfolio. This position will initially report to the VP of Finance & Chief Accounting Officer and will be located in Burlingame, CA.

Responsibilities

These may include but are not limited to: 

  • Ensures accuracy of financial transactions and ensures processes align with company accounting policies/procedures.
  • Ensures timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain the general ledger of the parent company and its subsidiaries.
  • Manage the monthly close process, including preparation/review of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare complex journal entries, including clinical trial accruals, CMC accruals and stock-based compensation.
  • Assist SEC Reporting Manager to prepare schedules to support SEC filings.
  • Assist VP of Finance to develop FP&A function to support a growing organization.
  • Ensure SOX compliance by monitoring accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Prepare audit schedules and work closely with external auditors.
  • Review AP invoices for proper coding, signing authority, and accuracy.
  • Review new vendors and purchase orders.
  • Review payroll.
  • Make and implement recommendations to improve accounting policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
  • Support the organization in maintaining a work environment focused on quality and that fosters learning, open communication, collaboration, integration and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or related study.
  • 5+ years of related work experience – preferably in a similar environment.
  • CPA required.
  • The ideal candidate will be a Big 4 CPA.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and experience with SEC Regulations.
  • Previous experience in the life sciences, biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry highly desired.
  • Must possess the ability to multi-task and work in time sensitive situations to meet deadlines despite distractions and changing priorities.
  • High level of attention to detail, aptitude for planning/managing deadlines.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written), organizational, and project planning skills.
  • Must have ability to effectively work and communicate with all levels of employees throughout the company. Should be customer service driven and have positive outlook.
  • Previous experience with mid-sized ERP systems, preferably NetSuite, and other accounting software.
  • Computer literacy required, with the ability to navigate computer systems with little or no assistance.  Proficiency in MS Office and Outlook software specifically experience with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to self-motivate and function independently, driven towards superior effort and performance, and the desire to work in a very dynamic environment.
